A new exhibition exploring the enduring popularity of Beatrix Potter’s little books opens on Saturday 16 February in Hawkshead.
“Telling Tales” sets out to unpick why stories such as The Tale of Peter Rabbit, Jeremy Fisher and Squirrel Nutkin continue to be loved around the world and passed down from one generation to the next.
Visitors to the National Trust’s Beatrix Potter Gallery on Main Street, will be able to see more than 30 original illustrations as well as rarely seen items bequeathed by the Lake District storyteller.

The cottage is looking lovely for our 2019 guests!
This week Unesco announced that the Lake District National Park has achieved World Heritage Status as a landscape of international cultural significance. Come and stay at Curlew Cottage in one of the prettiest villages in the Lakeland.
On Saturday 17 June we came up to the Lakes and used the Windermere Ferry to get across the lake from Windermere to Far Sawrey.
If you’re coming to the Lakes from the South it can be the best way to get to Hawkshead (if you hit the ferry timings correctly). A picturesque way to travel.
We’re keeping in touch with our visitors via a new website. On here you will find more information about the cottage, news and good ideas for visits to make from here!
14 May was the most beautiful sunny day. I walked to Latterbarrow from the cottage via Colthouse and Claife Heights, waved at Pete in the cottage from the Trig Point on the top of Latterbarrow and returned via the bluebell wood with the most glorious display of bluebells. The smell was to die for! A great way to spend 2 hours.
The outside of the cottage has been newly painted and the tarmac paths resurfaced all completed in May and looking looking very smart and welcoming for our guests.
